Sanatan Dharma

Sanatan  Dharma has been practiced for millions of years, and no one can say when it began. We can try to understand this spontaneous religion as follows: the  dharma (natural law) of fire is to burn; the dharma of water is to wet; the dharma of air is to blow from one place to another.

Who can say on what day the fire began to burn, the water to wet, and the air to blow? No one knows.

Sanatan Dharma is like a great ocean. From this ocean, each country has carved channels according to its own needs and purposes. But the channels cannot provide total satisfaction, as the ocean can, which dispenses complete bliss.
Until now, people have known only their channels. Now the Lord is showing us that we are not simply bubbles in a channel, but bubbles in the great ocean. As long as we maintain our individuality, we are like bubbles; when the bubble dissolves, we are one with the ocean.

Babaji spoke of Sanatan Dharma throughout his time with us:

Babaji spoke of Sanatan Dharma
throughout his time with us:

“You must work to uplift humanity and eradicate pride, jealousy, and hatred.”

“There is no saint without a past, or sinner without a future.”

“All divine perfection and virtue are hidden within you: reveal them to the world. Wisdom, too, is already within you… Let it shine around you.”

“Seek harmony in everything you do.”

“Think of the earth as a mother. Look to the future with a vision of good deeds to be done for the whole world, not just for one country.”

Pohoiki Ashram stands on land that carries its own ancient memory. This island knows something about the dharma of fire, of ocean, of earth that gives and receives without hesitation. We see this as more than coincidence. A tradition rooted in the dharma of fire, water, and earth found its way to an island shaped by all three. The teachings of Babaji and the wisdom of this place recognize each other.

Every practice we tend here, the morning fire, the evening prayer, the hands in the soil, is our way of saying yes to what has always been true on this land. The ocean was here before us. We are grateful to be bubbles in it.
